Squeaks from speedo

I've seen some recent messages about "noises" and I thought Imight offer one possible problem area and remedy for same. I have a 1996 LS, bought 7-97, and had "squeaks" which I found was coming from my speedo housing. When the engine RPM was higher I would get this "buzz/squeak" noise which I could stop by putting my hand on the plastic housing while putting slight pressure on the speedo face. This winter I took the housing apart and I found that the posts which mount the mechanism through the springs were rubbing on the holes in the metal brackets which they passed through, which was giving the squeaking sound I was hearing. I went to my local hobby shop and found some thin wall brass tubing whose ID the posts fit through perfectly, and whose OD fits right through the existing holes in the metal brackets. I cut a short piece for each of the three posts, put some grease in them so the posts could slide a bit without rubbing, and put the whole thing back together. Now the posts can move without
rubbing the metal brackets. Now that I've had the bike on the road the "noise" is gone which is good as it was beginning to aggravate me.

I hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.

Tim
